Migrant Survivor and Returnees Reintegration Seminar, Kumba – Cameroon
On December 27, 2024, the Cameroon Migrant Network (CMN) organized the first-ever Migrant Survivors and Returnees Reintegration Seminar in the Southwest Region of Cameroon. Held at Sharvic Hotel in Kumba, the event addressed the urgent need for reintegration support in a region deeply affected by the ongoing Anglophone crisis and economic hardship, which continues to push many young people to seek opportunities abroad—often unprepared and without job-ready skills.
Many of these migrants end up returning, either voluntarily or through deportation, only to face stigma and rejection from their communities. In response, CMN designed this seminar to provide practical solutions and emotional support. Key sessions included pre-departure orientation for those considering re-migration, small business (“petit business”) ideas and startup support, local trading (“buyam-sellam”), and agricultural initiatives such as piggery and poultry farming.
Over 75 returnees and their relatives attended, including participants with lived migration experiences from Europe, America, and the Middle East. Their personal testimonies inspired and motivated others to rebuild their lives with dignity and purpose.
Beyond training and discussions, the seminar fostered a sense of community through shared meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), refreshments, fun activities, and free distribution of T-shirts. Transportation was fully covered for all attendees, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
The event was a powerful step toward empowering returnees, restoring hope, and building stronger, more resilient communities in Cameroon.
